Google Unleashes Deep Research Agent
Google launched its most advanced AI research agent yet, Gemini Deep Research, powered by the new Gemini 3 Pro model. This tool can synthesize vast data for complex tasks like due diligence or drug safety analysis. Significantly, it’s also now embeddable into third-party apps via Google’s new Interactions API.

Deep Research, Real Applications: Gemini Deep Research handles large-context prompts and minimizes hallucinations during extended reasoning. It’s already used by clients for high-stakes investigative and scientific research tasks.
Coming to Google’s Ecosystem: The agent will soon integrate into Google Search, Finance, NotebookLM, and the Gemini app. This move pushes Google closer to an AI-agent-first future for everyday users.
New Benchmark, New Claims: Google introduced DeepSearchQA to test multi-step research performance and open-sourced it. The agent also scored highly on Humanity’s Last Exam and BrowserComp benchmarks.
OpenAI Counters Instantly: On the same day, OpenAI released GPT-5.2 (“Garlic”), claiming superiority across standard benchmarks. While Google led on its own tests, OpenAI edged ahead on browser-based tasks.
This head-to-head launch highlights the intensifying AI arms race. Both companies are betting that the next frontier is not just smarter models but agents that can reliably act on our behalf. For developers and power users, these tools signal a shift toward embedded, autonomous AI workflows.

President Trump signed an executive order aiming to centralize AI regulation under federal control. The move directs agencies to challenge state laws that restrict AI and threatens to withhold rural broadband funding from noncompliant states. It claims such laws could force AI models to generate inaccurate outputs to avoid “algorithmic discrimination.”

Federal Over State Authority: The order pushes for a single national AI policy, arguing that a patchwork of state laws stifles innovation. It specifically targets Colorado’s consumer protection law as overly restrictive.
New Enforcement Mechanisms: An “AI Litigation Task Force” will sue states over conflicting AI laws. The FTC must also clarify when state rules on AI outputs violate federal trade laws.
Funding as Leverage: The Commerce Department has 90 days to identify states with “conflicting” AI laws. Those states may lose eligibility for federal rural broadband grants under the BEAD program.
Limited Exceptions: The order carves out exceptions for state laws on child safety, AI infrastructure, and government AI use. However, the language remains vague and subject to federal interpretation.
This executive order signals a major shift toward top-down AI governance. While it aims to streamline regulation for tech companies, it risks undermining state efforts to protect consumers. With Congress stalled, the White House is using executive power to shape the future of AI, raising legal and ethical questions that may soon reach the courts.
